Questions and answers
How does review work?
Every word you learn becomes a card in Munin's review (Practice › Munin). After each card you say how well you knew it, and the FSRS scheduler picks the day it comes back: soon for words you found hard, later and later for words you know. A few minutes of review a day keeps everything you have learned. If you miss a few days, Munin simply has more cards ready; nothing is lost.
What is the daily goal?
The daily goal is time, not points: Light (5 minutes), Regular (12 minutes) or Serious (20 minutes). Home plans a session that fits it, and offers a 2-minute version on busy days. The goal counts as met when you finish the day's session or study that long. Change it in Settings › Learning › Daily goal.
Can I turn off the streak, Memory and badges?
Yes. Turn on Quiet mode in Settings › Learning. It hides the streak, Memory, quests, badges and celebrations everywhere. Your progress is still saved, and you can turn Quiet mode off again any time.
How do I back up my progress or move it to a new phone?
Open Settings › Your data and tap Export backup. Frodi makes one file with your settings and progress for all your languages; save it somewhere safe, such as Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive or an email to yourself. On the new phone, install Frodi, open Settings › Your data, tap Choose a backup file and pick that file. Review history is merged, never deleted.
How do I delete everything?
Settings › Reset › Reset everything returns every language to the start (you type RESET to confirm). To reset only one language, use the Reset button for that language in the same place. You can also simply delete the app. Your progress is only on your phone, so nothing is kept on a server. Export a backup first if you might want your progress back.
A word or sentence looks wrong. How do I report it?
On a review card, open the card's menu and choose Report a problem, then pick what is wrong (for example the translation, the gender or an unnatural example) and add a note if you like. In a lesson, "I was right" on the answer sheet saves a report too. Reports stay on your phone until you send them: Settings › Reported issues › Share all reports, then choose email and send them to support@frodi.org. Thank you, every report is checked.
Words aren't read aloud, or the voice sounds robotic
Frodi uses the voices built into your phone. On iPhone, download a better voice for your language in Settings › Accessibility › Spoken Content › Voices (look for Enhanced or Premium voices). On Android, open your phone's text-to-speech settings (usually under Accessibility or System › Languages) and install the voice data for your language. Then choose the voice in Frodi's Settings › Voice.
How do speaking exercises work?
Speaking exercises are off by default. Turn them on in Settings › Voice › Speaking exercises. The first time one starts, Frodi asks for permission to use the microphone and your phone's speech recognition. You can always skip a speaking exercise. Frodi keeps no recordings; see the privacy policy.
How do I get a daily reminder?
Turn on Daily reminder in Settings › Reminders and pick a time. Frodi asks your phone for permission to show notifications. Reminders are scheduled on your phone itself; you can turn them off in the same place or in your phone's notification settings.
Does Frodi cost anything?
The first version is free, with no ads.
